Two Dead After Silver Spring Fire, Explosion

At least two people are dead and more than 30 are injured after a massive explosion and fire in Silver Spring. The three-alarm fire broke out at an apartment complex just before midnight and fire officials say the blast could be felt a mile away. Crews continue to search for at least five people who are unaccounted for, using search dogs to sift through the rubble.

Oppressive Heat, Humidity In DC Area

It’s a day of oppressive heat and humidity in Metropolitan Washington. A heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until 8:00 this evening. Temperatures are well into the 90s and the heat index is near 105 degrees.

Redskins Open Preseason Schedule Tonight In Atlanta

The Washington Redskins kick off their preseason slate tonight with a game against the Falcons in Atlanta. Redskins starting quarterback Kirk Cousins is not expected to play more than a series or two and younger players will be on the field for most of the game. The Redskins regular season starts one month from tomorrow when the Pittsburgh Steelers visit FedEx Field on a Monday night.

Clinton Pitches Economic Agenda

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is touting her economic agenda. Speaking in Michigan, Clinton said it is focused on helping working families. She cited ongoing economic progress after the deep recession and said there’s much more work to do. Clinton argued that those at the top of the economic scale need to start paying their fair share of taxes. She said millions of good-paying jobs could be created by renovating highways, bridges, schools and rail lines.

Trump Repeats Claim About Obama, Clinton & ISIS

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is not letting up on a claim that President Obama and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton are responsible for the rise of ISIS. Speaking to the National Association of Home Builders in Florida, Trump said Clinton is an ISIS MVP. Trump also insisted that polls are tightening in the presidential race. He also said Russian President Vladimir Putin has no respect for President Obama and noted that the U.S. should have better relations with Russia.
