Durkin, Evans To Stay With UMD

(Baltimore, MD) — The University of Maryland’s head football coach will return to the sidelines. The University System of Maryland’s governing board announced today that University of Maryland athletic director Damon Evans and head football coach DJ Durkin will return to their positions. The announcement comes after investigations into the death of football player Jordan McNair and into the university’s football program. The board says it will not take action on university president Wallace Loh, but Loh said today he will leave the university in June. Durkin has been on administrative leave since August 11th. McNair died after suffering a heatstroke following a practice. McNair’s parents previously called for Durkin to be fired.

Trumps Visit Pittsburgh Synagogue After Shooting Massacre

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The President and First Lady Melania Trump are visiting the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh after Saturday’s shooting massacre there. The tragedy took eleven lives. Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly are part of the presidential entourage. While in Pittsburgh, the President is expected to meet with some shooting victims, victims’ families and first responders. Pittsburgh’s Democratic mayor said the presidential visit is too soon as the city’s grief is still very raw.

Graham Will Introduce Bill To End Birthright Citizenship

(Washington, DC) — A bill to end birthright citizenship is in the works. South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham announced he’s working on plans to introduce the bill following President Trump’s comments. Trump said earlier this week he vows to try and end the practice through an executive order. In order to amend the Constitution, two-thirds approval votes from Congress are needed and ratification by three-quarters of the states. Birthright citizenship is protected by the 14th Amendment. During an interview with Axios on HBO, Trump called it ridiculous and said it has to end.

Bernie Sanders Stumping For Ben Jealous

(Bethesda, MD) — Ben Jealous is getting some high profile help on the campaign trail. The Democratic nominee for governor will be joined by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in Bethesda on Tuesday night. They’ll hold a Get Out the Vote Rally starting at 6 p.m. at the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club. Jealous is trying to unseat Republican Governor Larry Hogan in next week’s election.
