On the May issue of Essence magazine, it “honors the women who are blazing trails for equal rights and inclusion for Black people in America.” This is a first for the magazine.
Woke Cover Alert! In our May issue, we're launching our first-ever #Woke100 list. It's filled with change agents who are part of a new guard of activists, educators, journalists, thinkers and creators who are more than conscious–they're ever vigilant about creating a nation in which we all have a seat at the table. Available on newsstands Friday, 4/21.
The cover will feature influential women like journalists Joy-Ann Reid, writer/producer Shonda Rhimes, and Women’s March co-chairs Tamika Mallory, Carmen Perez and Linda Sarsour. It also features appearances from political commentator Angela Rye, author/blogger Luvvie Ajayi, Women’s March organizer Janaye Ingram and social activist April Reign.
The featured #Woke100 are women who are socially conscious in the fight for Black liberation.
