Federal Prosecutors Open Clergy Abuse Probe In Pennsylvania

(Philadelphia) –The U.S. Justice Department has opened an investigation of child sexual abuse inside the Roman Catholic Church in Pennsylvania. That’s according to two people familiar with the probe, who say federal prosecutors have served subpoenas on dioceses across the state that seek a trove of sensitive files and testimony from church leaders. The two people are not authorized to discuss the investigation and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The subpoenas follow a state grand jury report in August that detailed hundreds of allegations of children being sexually abused by priests in dioceses across Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania’s attorney general concluded that no state charges could be filed because of legal time limits.

Workers Find More Remains In Former Detroit Funeral Home

(Detroit, MI) — More human remains have been discovered in a former Detroit funeral home. The cremated remains were found in the basement of the building that housed the Cantrell Funeral Home on Detroit’s east side. Electrician Joe Summers found the first box and said it clearly identified the person’s name and the year 1993. Three other boxes located did not have a name or when the person died. Investigators say there may be more discarded remains as the cleanup of the building continues. The Cantrell Funeral Home was closed by the state earlier this year after 21 bodies were found improperly stored in a garage behind the funeral home.
