“Winter Weather Advisory” remains until 10 this morning

The entire WHUR listening area is under a “Winter Weather Advisory” until 10 this morning. Forecasters say the snow should start tapering off around 9.

Multiple school closures and delays

In response to the snow, cold and icy conditions some area school systems chose to alter the start of their day. Closed today Prince George’s, Montgomery, Charles, St. Mary’s and Frederick County schools in Maryland. In Virginia the schools closed today are in Frederick, Culpepper, Fairfax and Loudoun counties. DC public schools will open this morning two hours late.

The Federal Government is open today

The Federal Government will open this morning two hours late. Employee’s have the option of taking an unscheduled leave or teleworking.

Howard University will open this morning at 10am. Prince George’s Community College will open at 10:30am.

A massive sink hole in Bladensburg swallows a car with people inside

A massive sink hole caused by a water main break at Edmonston and Tilden Roads in Bladensburg has swallowed up a car and caused several homes to be evacuated. There were three people inside of the car at the time, thankfully they were able to get out through the car windows. WSSC remains on the scene.

The Blizzard of 2015 is pounding parts of the East Coast

All eyes are on New England and Boston as a Blizzard continues to pound them with snow and high winds. Up to 3 feet of snow is expected once its all said and done. New York City which has been shutdown since 11 last night was not hit as hard as expected. The first reported death due to the storm is a 17 year old who was tubing on Long Island.
