A “Wind Advisory” issued for our area

The National Weather Service has issued a “Wind Advisory” for the entire WHUR listening area from Noon to Midnight. We could see wind gusts up to 50 mph. Power outages are likely.

Building 197 at the Navy Yard reopens under a new name

Hundreds gathered at the Washington Navy Yard for this mornings renaming ceremony of building 197. Building 197 was the scene of a massing shooting in 2013, 12 people were killed. The gunman, Aaron Alexis a government contractor was killed by police. The building will now be called The Humphrey’s Building. The building has gone under a $63 million dollar renovation. 400 employee’s will return today and hundreds more over the next few weeks.

Congress prepares for the Presidents multi-trillion dollar budget proposal

President Barack Obama is set to present his $4 Trillion Dollar budget proposal to Congress today. It includes closing loop holes that allow U.S. companies with foreign headquarters to avoid paying U.S. taxes, decreasing taxes for the middle class, free community college and pay raises for federal and military employee’s.

Punxsutawney Phil has revealed if we will have an early spring

The verdict is in. Punxsutawney Phil is predicting six more weeks of winter. Just before 7:30 Eastern time Pennsylvania’s famous groundhog saw his shadow signally six more weeks of winter weather.

Growing up in a military family, Taylor Thomas lived overseas until she was 16 years old. She called places such as Great Britain and the Philippines home. For a time, Taylor even spoke with a British accent. Well now she resides in the DC area and for the past three years has worked as the news anchor for The Steve Harvey Morning Show on WHUR. Recently, Taylor has adopted the Washington Redskins as her most loved pro sports team.
