Memorial Day Activities, DC Schools Lose Over 150 teachers…

Memorial Day wrap up…

In observance of Memorial Day, all federal offices are closed. Postal delivery and trash pick up will be halted for the day as well. The Metro train is on a weekend schedule. Rhode Island Avenue on the Red Line will be closed for the entire day. The Memorial Day parade will begin today at 2 this afternoon at 7th and Constitution Avenue in NW DC. Roads will be closed for the parade until 5 this evening. President Trump will be giving his first Memorial Day speech later today at Arlington National Cemetery. He is also expected to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

DC schools lose almost 200 teachers…

Almost 200 teachers have resigned from their positions at DC public schools. Schools have lost anywhere from 10-25% of their faculty as a result of teachers leaving their jobs. Officials are filling the open positions with substitute teachers. Some say it’s depriving students of top quality education in important subjects. No specific reason was given.

Several cases settled in fatal L’Enfant Plaza smoke incident…

Twenty-five cases were settled out of court with regards to the L’Enfant Plaza metro smoke accident in 2015. The case of Carol Glover, who was killed in the accident, has not been dismissed. A court date is predicted for some time in 2018.

Trump’s Senior Advisor told to “lay low”…

President Trumps Senior Advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner has reportedly been told to “lay low” following claims that he tried to set up a secret communications channel between Russia and the Trump administration using Russian equipment. The President says that he has “total confidence” in Kushner and that he’s “doing a great job for the country” despite these allegations.
