Texas Holds Moment Of Silence For Santa Fe Victims

Santa Fe, TX – Texas is mourning the victims of the Santa Fe High School shooting. A moment of silence was observed at 10 a.m. as Texans stood with heads bowed in remembrance of the eight students and two teachers killed last week. Crosses bearing the names of the dead are outside Santa Fe High School with dozens gathered around them. Over a dozen people were injured in the shooting. The suspect is in custody.

Fairfax Student Dies After Being Crushed By Motorized Room Partitioner

Alexandria, VA – A nine-year-old boy is dead from injuries he suffered when he got caught between a motorized room partition and a wall in his Fairfax County school. The incident happened Friday afternoon at an after-school program at Franconia Elementary School in Alexandria. Police say Wesley Lipicky and a teacher simultaneously pressed a button to open the motorized room partition and it malfunctioned. The school district says it will work with police and the county to review safety protocols.

De Sousa Due In Court Today

Baltimore, MD – Former Baltimore City Police Commissioner Darryl De Sousa will make his fist court appearance today. He faces federal charges for failing to file U.S. tax returns. De Sousa resigned last week after news of the accusations surfaced. If convicted, he could be slapped with a 75-thousand dollar fine and face up to three years in prison.

Explosive Eruption Reported At Kilauea

Puna, HI – The Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island is continuing to erupt sending toxic gas plumes in the air. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says a small blast was recorded just before 1 a.m. this morning, sending a plume of ash about seven-thousand feet up. Residents are urged to stay indoors, close windows and doors and use caution when driving. Meanwhile, Hawaii officials are confirming the first lava-related injury from the Kilauea volcano eruption. The man was standing on the third-floor balcony of his house Saturday when lava flew through the air and splattered on his leg. A Hawaii County spokeswoman says it shattered everything from the shin down.
