Obama Makes Appearance In VA Democratic Campaign Office

(McLean, VA) — Former President Barack Obama is showing his support for Virginia Senator Tim Kaine and congressional candidate Jennifer Wexton today. Obama surprised volunteers with doughnuts at a Democratic campaign office in Fairfax earlier today during an event to support Virginia Democrats. The former president reminded campaign workers that he, like Wexton, had also been a state senator, which he called great training for Congress. He reminded volunteers that the character of the country “is on the ballot.” His visit comes one day before the midterm election. Kaine is running for re-election to the Senate, and Wexton is challenging Republican Representative Barbara Comstock in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District.

Prince George’s Permitting Department Head Steps Down Over MGM Flap

(Prince George’s County, MD) — The head of the Prince George’s County permitting department is stepping down amid an investigation into construction flaws at the MGM National Harbor. Haitham A. Hijazi is leaving the Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement which he has led since 2013. Hijazi’s department issued the permits for the MGM facilities where a child was severely shocked in June while she was swinging on a lighted handrail. Prince George’s County confirmed the shock was caused by shoddy electrical work.

Middle School Students Injured After Bus Crash

(Montgomery County, MD) — Eight middle school students are recovering after their bus collided with a trash truck in Montgomery County. Police say the incident happened this morning in the 24-hundred block of Norbeck Road as the bus was traveling to Farquhar Middle School. The driver of the school bus was injured as well. Police say all those hurt have non life-threatening injuries.

Cowboys Host Titans on MNF

(Arlington, TX) — A pair of 3-and-4 teams meet up on Monday Night Football as the Tennessee Titans take on the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington. The Titans are coming off their bye week and look to end a three-game losing streak. The Cowboys are also coming off their bye week, following a 20-17 loss at Washington in Week Seven.
