There’s Plenty To Do In The DMV This Weekend

Weekend Haps Update:

  • Family Medicine Practice is hosting a free Community Health Fair Saturday, August 19th from 11am to 5pm on the campus of at 2900 Mercy Lane @ Prince George’s Hospital Center. There will be health screenings, ask the doctor seminars, children activities, giveaways, sports physical, refreshments and more.  Plus our very own Jeff Brown of the Original Quiet Storm will be on hand.  There will also be free backpacks while supplies last.   • Dru Hill is at the Howard Theatre Friday night for an 8pm show

 

  • On Saturday check out Stokley from Mint Condition at Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club. Doors open at 5pm, show time is 7pm

 

  • On Saturday, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation presents the 3rd Annual Chuck Brown Day at the Chuck Brown Memorial Park from 3pm-7pm. A full afternoon of entertainment which will feature the Chuck Brown Band,  also, EU featuring Sugar Bear. Celebrating the Godfather of Go-Go.  For more information go here:

 

  • DC Black Film Festival
    The Miracle Theatre will host the DC Black Film Festival, which starts this Thursday at 7pm and runs through Saturday. The festival showcases films by and/or about people of African descent, screening works from emerging artists that have dynamic stories to tell. Jury awards will be given in numerous categories, including Best Feature and Best DC Film (DC must be the setting or focus of the movie), while the Audience Choice Award goes to the film with the highest audience rating.   • The 100 Black Men of Prince George’s County is presenting their 5K Run & Walk for Mental Health this Saturday at the Tucker Road Community Center. Registration is at 7am and the Run/Walk begins at 9am.  For more information contact Dr. Lamont Bunyon at lbunyon@100princegeorges.org
