U of Md President Fires Football Coach, Two Arrest For Setting A Woman On Fire

U of Md President fires football coach…

Some 24 hours after the University of Maryland Board of Regents issued its recommendation to reinstate football coach DJ Durkin, he has been let go. President Wallace Loh after meeting with University leaders and student leaders decided to fire Durkin.

The family of 19 year old Jordan McNair who died from heatstroke at practice says they are happy about the decision. Jordan’s father Marty McNair says its just the first step in making thing right.

Students will hold today’s 3:30 rally entitled Justice for Jordan” to show support for the Jordan family and for all university Athletes. President Loh has stated he will resign in June and he will work now on making sure all students are safe while play sports for the university.

Two arrest for setting a woman on fire…

DC Police have made an arrest in the case of a woman who was doused with gasoline and then set on fire. 39-year-old Darielle Gross and 17-year-old Mylan Barnes were taken into custody yesterday. Both have been charged with assault with the intent to kill. Barnes will be tried as an adult.

The victim Stephanie Chase Wheeler suffered third degree burns to her face, neck, back and chest. She has undergone on surgery with many more to come. She remains in critical condition. Wheeler was trying to break up a fight between her daughter and a neighbors daughter when she was assaulted last weekend on 37th Street in Southeast.
