What You Missed: Steve Harvey’s “Sand and Soul Festival” Weekend 2017

DMV I’m having flashbacks from Steve Harvey’s Sand and Soul Festival at Atlantis, Paradise Island in the Bahamas. We stayed at the gorgeous Atlantis Royal Tower’s Hotel with a full ocean view. I strongly recommend it.

We began the 3-day celebration with an outdoor welcome reception with a live traditional dance performance poolside and music by DJ Kid Capri. We had a few hours afterward to walk the huge property of 4 hotels, an aquarium, 3 turquoise colored beaches, shops and numerous restaurants before getting ready for the comedy show later that night. We had our funny bones tickled by Junior who hosted with special guest Earth Quake and J.B. Smoove. Every day was sunny and hot. The food was GREAT and abundant! There were so many options from the numerous restaurants on property to the all famous Fish Fry. You have to try Twin Brothers. They not only have the best food on the island but their customer service was wonderful.

We began day two on the beach with a BBQ Party complete with volleyball, checkers, tug a war and music by DJ Mars.

Saturday Carla Ferrell hosted the Sand and Soul Slot Tournament. There were some serious players out there. Steve helped to kick off the Sand and Soul Day Party featuring DJ Mars. Saturday night was our first concert featuring Eric Benet, En Vogue who took it back to the old school and Keith Sweat who reminded us why re ruled the 90’s. Sunday we met on the beach for more sun, fun and great music. Sunday’s concert began with Doug E. Fresh. Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella showed they still had it and New Edition, well, what can I say. The crowd never sat down. They gave attendees just what we expected songs by NE, Johnny Gill, and BBD. It was a high impact show with live singing. Each night ended with an afterparty hosted by a celebrity DJ that ended at 3 in the morning. At any point you could bump into the celebrity guests like Doug E Fresh, B.J. Smoove and even Steve Harvey.

The Atlantis is a wonderful property with a huge on-site water park, aquarium, 3 beaches, 4 pools and a Lagoon. There is something for everyone to do and see. There’s even a marina on site complete with shopping and restaurants. To be honest you can stay at Atlantis and never need to leave for anything. It was relaxing and fun. I met so many listeners from across the country.

I can’t say it enough about this beautiful island, the people who call it home and the well planned “Sand and Soul Festival”.  Start now planning to join us next year.  Here are a few more images of the wonderful, relaxing, fun and entertaining festifal.  #sandandsoulfest
