Compton’s Phillips Sisters Making Major Moves On The Golf Course

Since the age of two, sisters Layla Phillips, 6, and Roxy Phillips, 4, are making big moves on the golf course, already being compared to the Williams sisters.

According to ABC 7 News, Layla has already won large competitions, taking the first place prize in the Southern California PGA drive, chip and putt competition. Her victory now qualifies her to play in the junior world competition, battling against other kids from countries as far as Japan, China, and Mexico.

Did we also mention these sisters are from Compton? Sounds familiar!

Luis Batson, CEO of Help Youth Through Golf, has already said “they are very, very good. I can only compare them to the sisters Williams in tennis.”

Since they lived next to South Log Angeles’ Maggie Hathaway Golf Course, the girls’ mother, Jasimen Phillips, constantly wrote letters to the course complaining about the number of golf balls that landed in their backyard.

According to Blavity, Maggie Hathaway Golf Course offered the Phillips family free golf lessons, to make amends.

Jasimen Phillips definitely took them up on their offer, enrolling the girls, and the rest has been history!

Momma Phillips is definitely excited about the girls’ success, but she’s made it clear that education should come first.

“Education is always the first priority,” said Jasimen Phillips. “So our first goal is full-ride scholarships to Stanford.”

We can’t wait to watch the Phillips Sisters exceed on the course!
