NEW ORLEANS (October 16, 2018) – The Sun Belt Conference (SBC) unveiled its weekly honors where Howard University sophomore defender Matteo Turner (Hamilton, Bermuda) earned the league’s top defensive weekly honors for his performance at Rutgers. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.

The Bermuda native knocked in his first collegiate goal in the Bison’s double-overtime road victory against the Scarlett Knights. In the 106th minute, a ball ricocheted from Rutgers’ goalkeeper and Turner capitalized to give Howard its second win of the season.

Appalachian State freshman midfielder Alex Hernandez won SBC Offensive Player of the Week after delivering the game-winning goal in the 77th minute in the 2-1 win over then-No. 22 ranked Coastal Carolina.

On Oct. 20, coach Phillip Gyau and the Bison return home where they host reigning Sun Belt Champions Coastal Carolina on Senior Day. Match time is set for 5 p.m. at Greene Stadium.
