A new study is reporting that District of Columbia schools rate at the bottom of the 50 best public school systems in America. The WalletHub study analyzed student performance, district funding, safety, class size and teacher credentials. The bottom five states for public education were Arizona, Alaska, D.C., Louisiana and New Mexico. Massachusetts is number one. Joining Massachusetts in the top five were New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Jury Selection Complete In Manafort Trial

(Alexandria, VA) — A jury is being seated in the trial for President Trump’s former campaign chief. The judge in the criminal trial of Paul Manafort said the jury has been selected and opening arguments could happen this afternoon in Alexandria, Virginia. Manafort has pleaded not guilty to numerous counts of bank and tax fraud and failure to file reports on foreign financial accounts. Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team is prosecuting Manafort. However, the charges are not directly related to Russian interference in the last presidential election.

Facebook Says It Has Found More Political Fake Accounts\

(Washington, DC) — Facebook officials say they have found new, fake accounts that are trying to influence U.S. elections. The social media giant announced today it has discovered dozens of fake accounts and pages engaged in political activity ahead of the midterm elections. Company officials said they have not been able to link those accounts to Russia. U.S. intelligence officials have said Russian agents tried to influence the outcome of U.S. elections in 2016. One of the fake accounts was dedicated to abolishing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office. The eight Facebook and seventeen Instagram accounts were disabled.

Stewart Adviser Under Scrutiny For Expletive Tweets

(Washington, DC) — An adviser to GOP Senate candidate Corey Stewart is being criticized for controversial tweets. Several social media posts show Rick Shaftan, who is advising Stewart in his run to unseat Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, using expletives to describe the city of Baltimore, after a Confederate statue in the city was replaced with a memorial to Harriet Tubman in January. In 2015, following protests in Baltimore and Ferguson related to the deaths of black men, Shaftan tweeted, “The message of Ferguson and Baltimore is a simple one: DON’T OPEN A BUSINESS IN A BLACK NEIGHBORHOOD!” Stewart has been criticized himself for campaigning to preserve Confederate monuments.
