Florence Slightly Weakens To Cat 3 Storm

Hurricane Florence is now a Category 3 storm. The National Hurricane’s latest advisory says the storm’s winds have weakened to 125 miles-per-hour. The storm is located about 435 miles southeast of Wilmington, North Carolina, and is moving northwest at 16 miles-per-hour. Storm surge watches and warnings along with hurricane watches and warnings and tropical storm watches and warnings are up in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal issued an emergency declaration for all counties now that the path has moved south.

Comcast Opening Hotspots During Hurricane Florence

(Washington, DC) — Comcast is opening Xfinity WiFi hot spots in the DC Metro area as Hurricane Florence heads toward the Carolinas. The hot spots will be available to residents and emergency personnel to help everyone stay connected during the storm. The hot spots will stay open until Monday at noon. Customers and non-customers will be able to access the wifi. This comes as heavy rain is expected to fall on the DC area when the hurricane makes landfall later this week. Residents can go to the Xfinity website to see hot spots near them.

Montgomery County School System To Offer Condoms At All High Schools

(Montgomery County, MD) — The Montgomery County school system will offer condoms at all its high schools amid a spike in sexually transmitted diseases in the county. The school board voted unanimously yesterday to offer condoms at all its high schools after a pilot program at four schools kicked off at the beginning of the school year. The county health officer described the increase as a public health crisis, as STD cases have hit a ten-year high.

WNBA Finals Resume Tonight

(Fairfax, VA) — Game Three of the WNBA Finals tips off tonight as the Seattle Storm visit the Washington Mystics. Seattle leads the best-of-five series two-games-to-none and can clinch with a win tonight. The Storm seek their first WNBA title since 2010 and the third in franchise history. The Mystics need three straight wins to bring home the title, which would be their first ever.
