Prosecutors File Manslaughter Charges In Stand Your Ground Case

(Clearwater, FL) — Prosecutors are charging the man at the center of the Clearwater, Florida Stand Your Ground case. The Pinellas County State Attorney’s Office filed manslaughter charges today against Michael Drejka. He was booked into the Pinellas County jail and bail was set at 100-thousand-dollars. Drejka shot and killed Markeis McGlockton last month in a dispute over a handicapped parking space. The 47-year-old initially avoided arrest after Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said he was protected by the controversial Stand Your Ground self-defense law.

Family Asks For Prayers For “Queen Of Soul”

(Detroit, MI) — Family members confirmed today that legendary singer Aretha Franklin is really sick. The Detroit native is at home and her family is asking fans to pray for her. Franklin came to Detroit as a young child and was the daughter of pastor C.L. Franklin who served at New Bethel Baptist Church. The 76-year-old performer had to cancel appearances earlier this year due to medical issues. She announced last year that she would be retiring from touring to spend time with her family. Her last live performance was in November at the Elton John AIDS foundation even in New York City.

Trump Goes Firing Back At Omarosa

(Bedminster, NJ) — President Trump is defending himself against claims he’s a racist and a liar. The accusations coming from former White House staffer and reality TV star Omarosa Manigault. While promoting her new book, Omarosa said she personally heard a tape of Trump using the N-word during filming for NBC’s “The Apprentice” — the show which featured Omarosa as a contestant. Today Trump tweeted “Wacky Omarosa, who got fired 3 times on the Apprentice, now got fired for the last time. She never made it, never will. She begged me for a job, tears in her eyes, I said OK. People in the White House hated her. She was vicious, but not smart.”

Tax-Free Holiday Underway

(Annapolis, MD) — It is a good week for back to school shopping in Maryland. The tax-free holiday is here and runs through midnight Saturday. Shoppers won’t have to pay sales tax on qualifying clothing, footwear and accessories priced at 100-dollars or less. The first 40-dollars on a backpack or bookbag also qualifies. Online purchases also qualify for the holiday.
