Maryland Hate Crimes

Reports collected from state police show Maryland saw a sharp uptick in reports of hate or bias in 2017. The Baltimore Sun reports that Maryland State Police and records obtained through a public information request indicate the state’s law enforcement agencies received 398 such reports last year, an increase of 35 percent from 2016. The newspaper built a database from the nearly 700 incident reports state police collected from local departments in the last two years.

UMBC Sex Assault Complaints

Three more women have joined a lawsuit accusing prosecutors, detectives and university officials of covering up sexual assault complaints at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The Baltimore Sun reports the lawsuit initially filed by two women also added new defendants, including UMBC President Freeman Hrabowski III. One new plaintiff says she was raped by four UMBC basketball players in 2014. Two plaintiffs say they were sexually assaulted by UMBC baseball players last year.

Federal Judge Schedules Sentencing Date For Manafort

(Alexandria, VA) — A sentencing date for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort is set for February 8th. Manafort appeared in an Alexandria courtroom today wearing a prison jumpsuit and sitting in a wheelchair. His attorney said Manafort is having significant issues with his health that have to do with his confinement. Manafort was convicted on eight counts of tax and bank fraud.

 Washington Hosts Dallas Sunday

(Landover, MD) — The Burgundy and Gold are at home on Sunday as they clash with the NFC East rival Cowboys. Running back Adrian Peterson says his ankle, knee and shoulder issues are improved this week. Washington leads the division at 3-and-2. Dallas and Philly are both 3-and-3.
