Police Identify Girl Pulled From Chesapeake

(Annapolis, MD) — Police are identifying the 12-year-old Baltimore girl who was pulled from the Chesapeake Bay last night. Kaniya Kenly went under water at Sandy Point State Park yesterday evening and never resurfaced. Authorities searched for hours into the night until they found her body about 40 yards from the shore. She was part of a group of 15 people on an outing at the beach.

DeSantis Under Fire For ‘Monkey’ Comment

(Tallahassee, FL) — The Republican nominee for Florida governor is coming under fire for comments about his opponent. On Fox News this morning, Congressman Ron DeSantis said Florida voters should not “monkey this up” by electing Democratic nominee Andrew Gillum. DeSantis has since clarified his comment, saying he was talking about Florida not embracing Gillum’s socialist policies. Gillum, a Miami-Dade native, is the first African-American nominee for governor of Florida.

Republican Withdraws From Prince George’s County Executive Race

(Prince George’s County, MD) — Republican Jerry Mathis is dropping out of the race for Prince George’s County executive. The Washington Post reports Mathis withdrew from the race Friday, leaving Democratic nominee Angela Alsobrooks the only candidate in the race. The county’s Republican central committee has until next Thursday to put in a replacement. Alsobrooks is favored to win the general election.

Holder Endorses Ben Jealous

(Annapolis, MD) — Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is endorsing Democratic nominee Ben Jealous in Maryland’s race for governor. Holder said in a statement, “We need a courageous civil rights leader as governor who will protect Maryland from the worst of Donald Trump’s dangerous agenda.” Holder joins a list of high-profile Democrats supporting Jealous, who is looking to unseat Republican Governor Larry Hogan. Holder served in President Obama’s administration as the first African-American to lead the Department of Justice.
