Texas school shooting suspect IDed

SANTA FE, Texas – A law enforcement official has identified a person in custody in the Houston-area school shooting as 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis. The official was not authorized to discuss the shooting by name and spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press. Authorities say eight to 10 people, mostly students, were killed in the nation’s deadliest such attack since the massacre in Florida that gave rise to a campaign by teens for gun control. Pagourtzis plays on the Santa Fe High School junior varsity football team, and is a member of a dance squad with a local Greek Orthodox church.

Havana Plane Crash

Havana, Cuba – There are reports that a plane crashed on takeoff from a Havana airport. A Cubana de Aviacion Boeing 737 heading to Guyana crashed during takeoff from Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport today and casualties are being reported.

Officer Hospitalized After Being Hit By Car

Washington, DC – A DC police officer who was injured by a car is expected to make a full recovery. Officials say the cop was trying to apprehend a suspect inside a vehicle shortly before 10:30 last night on Brooks Street when the driver hit the gas pedal. The unidentified officer was dragged by the car for a short distance and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Flood Watch In Effect Until Saturday Morning

Rockville, MD – Rain could make for a messy commute this morning. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the District and surrounding areas until Saturday morning. A coastal flood advisory is also in effect. Periods of rain will continue through at least tonight with three to five more inches of rainfall expected in some areas. The weather service says rain will be heavy at times. Downed trees and wires are blocking several roads this morning.
