A six-year veteran from the Prince George’s County Police Department in Palmer Park is charged with the unthinkable. Officer Ryan Macklin was arrested and charged yesterday with last weeks sexual assault and rape of a female that he pulled over for a traffic stop.

Surveillance video shows some of the traffic stop made last week in Langley Park on University Boulevard at 1 am. The victim says she was forced to perform a sex act on him in his police cruiser.

Macklin who remains in jail has had all of his police privileges taken from him and he is suspended without pay. Police Chief Hank Stawinski says after a four day investigation of the allegation there is evidence that is is not the first time that this has happened with this officer. Investigators are asking the public if you or someone you know has a similar story to please call them at 301-772-4795. Macklin who faces 5 counts including rape, if convicted he faces the possibility of life in prison.

DC leaders vote on repealing Initiative 77…

The DC City Council is set to hold a final vote on repealing Initiative 77. That is the bill that over the summer was approved by voters to allow tip workers pay to increase to $15 an hour by 2025. Most on the council believe the bill would cost businesses too much money.

Lawmakers are also expected to issue a final decision on an Airbnb bill that would prevent people from renting out secondary homes and limit the number of days a primary residence can be rented out. According to the “Washington Post” Airbnb send a letter to the city council stating that if need be they will take the issue to voters in 2020 if they choose to move forward with the current bill.

Last day to register to vote in Maryland…

Today is October 16th and it’s the last day for residents in the state of Maryland to register to vote in next months November 6th Midterm election. Residents have three ways to register by mail, it must be postmarked with today’s date, online and in person at the Board of Elections Office.

In the District of Columbia resident there today is the last day to register online. DC residents you, however, have the option of registering and voting on election day.
