Bernie Sanders endorsing Ben Jealous in his run for Maryland governor

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is endorsing former NAACP chairman Ben Jealous in his run for Maryland governor.  Jealous made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter.  Jealous, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor, has scheduled an event with Sanders in Silver Spring on Thursday.  Jealous was the Maryland co-chairman of the senator’s unsuccessful campaign for the Democratic nomination for president against Hillary Clinton last year.

Hyattsville Home Devastated By Blaze

A Hyattsville home has been devastated by an early morning inferno. Prince George’s County Fire officials say the blaze started around 5:00 this morning in the 400 block of Willow Hill Place. The entire roof and nearly all of the second floor were incinerated. Two residents were able to escape without harm, but inspectors say the house is a total loss.

After Legalization, More Arrests For Smoking Pot

More and more people are being arrested for smoking pot in DC, even after legalization. The “Washington Post” reports arrests for public use of marijuana has nearly tripled since pot use became legal in 2015. More than four-hundred people were arrested in 2016 for public consumption of pot. Figures so far this year show a similar trend. It is legal to smoke pot in DC, as long as it’s in the privacy of your own home.

Maryland Man Upset Over Catalog Addressing Him As “Kunta Kinte”

A Maryland man says he’s so upset with what a computer company did, he wouldn’t take one of its products if it gave it to him. Charles Gilbert says he recently got a Dell computer catalog in the mail addressed to “Kunta Kinte”. That’s the name of a slave portrayed in the miniseries “Roots” and Gilbert says it’s like the “N” word. Dell tells WUSA-9 the problem comes from corrupted third-party data from a major credit reporting agency.
