High Heat, Humidity Returns

High heat and humidity is making its return to the DC area.  Temperatures will reach into the 90s, but the humidity will make it feel close to 100.  Temperatures will be in the 90s each day this week, and forecasters say the high humidity will last until Friday.

Joyce Mitchell Pleads Guilty To Helping Prisoners Escape

The woman who helped two men escape a prison in upstate New York will spend some time behind bars herself.  Joyce Mitchell pled guilty today to promoting prison contraband and criminal facilitation.  Under the deal, she’ll be sentenced to as many as seven years in prison.  Mitchell provided Richard Matt and David Sweat with tools and was supposed to be their getaway driver when they broke out of Clinton Correctional Facility last month. 

President Obama Wraps African Trip By Addressing AU

President Obama is wrapping up his five-day, two-nation tour of Africa by becoming the first sitting Commander in Chief to address the African Union.  Speaking in Ethiopia, Obama said the U.S. is offering economic partnerships with Africa, but that the continent must create more jobs for young people to avoid instability.  He urged leaders to create opportunities for the next generation while also avoiding corruption within its governments.  Obama also spoke about term limits, saying he’s looking forward to the end of his term and a change in power.

Cardinals Add First Female Coach

The Arizona Cardinals are breaking a barrier in the NFL by adding a female coach to their staff for the 2015 preseason.  The Cardinals have hired Jen Welter, who coached the Texas Revolution in the Indoor Football League.  Welter is believed to be the first woman to hold a coaching position of any kind in the league.  She joins Arizona as a training camp/preseason intern coaching inside linebackers.
