Power outages remain following heavy storms last night…

We have thousands in our area still without power this morning following strong storms last night. Pepco has about 11 thousand customers in the dark, most of which were in Prince George’s County. In Virginia, Dominion Virginia is reporting about 68 hundred outages, mainly in Northern Virginia.

Several new laws hit the books today …

It’s July 1st and several new law begin today. In DC, the minimum wage increases to $10.50. In Maryland the minimum wage increases to $8.25. Maryland residents will also see a increase in fee’s for WSSC services and gas. In Virginia, commuters will now have to pay 4% more to ride Metro rail.

A 7th Black church is set on fire in the South…

Federal Agents are investigating another historically black church fire in the South. Last night Mount Zion AME Church in Greeleyville, SC was burned to the ground. It’s the same church that was destroyed by fire year’s ago by the Ku Klux Klan. This is the 7th historically black church fire in the South since the deadly shooting spree at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church on June 17th. Officials are not ruling out lightening as a cause. A press conference regarding the investigation is expected around 10 this morning.
