Escaped prisoner is due back in court…

The prisoner that overpowered a contract guard yesterday at Inova Fairfax Hospital is due back in court on Friday. Woosen Assaye waived his right to a detention hearing yesterday. A tip lead police to him in Southeast DC, thanks to social media. Assaye faces additional charges as a result of yesterday’s escape.

Mayor Bowser delivered the State of the District Address…

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser delivered her first State of the District Address last night telling residents that DC is doing good but there is still work to be done including closing a $200 (M) budget gap. She also vowed to complete the city’s streetcar project along “H” street, putting body cams on DC police and free rides on metro for DC students.

Bowser issues a ban on travel to Indiana…

DC Mayor Bowser has issued a travel ban to the state of Indiana for city workers on official business. DC joins 4 other cities and 3 states following a new bill signed into law that they say discriminates against the LGBT community.
