Virginia shooting renews talks for gun control…

Yesterday’s shooting has renewed a national call for better gun control and a discussion on gun access to the mentally ill. It has been a tough morning for staff at WDBJ-TV hosting the morning news, a day after losing two of their own by gunfire live on TV at the hands of a disgruntled former employee identified as Vester Flanagan. The family of Flanagan has released a statement sending their condolences to the families affected. The sole survivor is improving, she has been
upgraded to good condition.

DC Mayor unveils a new plan to aid police in the fight against crime…

Earlier this morning DC Mayor Muriel Bowers unveiled a plan she believes will help law enforcement curb the spike in violent crime in the city. The mayor’s plan would give police more authority to search the homes or hold people on probation for a gun charge at will. The cities homicide rate now stands at 103.

President Obama marks the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina…

Right now, President Obama is headed to New Orleans. He heads there to
mark the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina that claimed over 18-hundred lives
and displaced tens of thousands more. The President is also expected to speak in the lower 9th ward, which still has not fully recovered.
