Montgomery Co. set to give out free condoms at H.S.’s …

Montgomery County Health Officials say STI are the highest they have been in 10 years. Specifically Syphilis, Gonorrhea and Chlamydia among people 15 to 29 years old. As a result leaders are working with school officials to launch a pilot program to provide condoms for students in high school.

The condoms would be given out by the school wellness center in the hopes of decreasing the numbers. This fall four high schools will take part in the pilot they are Wheaton, Gaithersburg, Watkins Mill and Northwood. Supporters who to expand this program to all high schools in the county and to some middle schools.

Tonight the school board could vote on whether or not to expand the program. School board member Jill Ortman-Fouse supports the program. “The sooner we move on it, the better”. Council member George Leventhal also supporters expanding the program district-wide as well.

Third teen arrested for assault an officer…

Just days after releasing images of the males who assaulted and robbed a off-duty police officer in Southeast DC police have announced the arrest of all three men.

Last week Officer David Lesansky was attacked and robbed of his scooter in broad daylight at Pennsylvania Avenue and Potomac Avenue in Southeast. The officer has few scrapes and bruises but he was not seriously hurt.

All three suspects wanted in connection with the surveillance images released by the police are now in police custody. They include a 15 and 17-year old who were not identified and 19 year old identified as Thomas Cooley.

The body of Senator McCain is due at Joint Base Andrews tonight…

Today thousands are paying their final respects to World War II P.O.W, hero and Arizona Senator John McCain today in Arizona. Tonight he will arrive at Joint Base Andrews around 7:30. Tomorrow his body will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda for the public from 1 to 8 pm. John McCain’s 106 year old mother will attend the service.

Visitors to the U.S. Capital are reminded that they will not be allowed to bring flowers, cards or take pictures. Security will be extremely tight. Look for road closures to begins today at First Street and East Capitol Street. Saturday a private ceremony featuring eulogy’s by former Presidents Barack Obama and George W Bush will take place. McCain will be laid to rest at the U.S. Navy Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
