Imagine opening your door and seeing Oprah Winfrey on the other side persuading you to vote in the midterm elections on November 6 for Atlanta gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

This was the exact scenario for a few Georgia residents as Oprah Winfrey went door to door campaigning  for Georgia’s Democratic candidate for governor, Stacey Abrams, to convince people to vote in the upcoming election. The race between Abrams and Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp is tight. If elected, Abrams would be the country’s first African-American female governor.

Oprah posted a video via Instagram captioned, “U never know who’s gonna come a knocking! #teamabrams,” which showed the residents shocking reaction to Oprah being on the other side of her door.

“I’m canvassing for Stacey Abrams. Are you voting for her?,” said Oprah.

“You get a vote! You get a vote,” shouted the crowd and Winfrey at a town hall in DeKalb County in support of Stacey Abrams.

Oprah has not publicly endorsed a politician since Obama back in 2008. After her moving #MeToo Movement speech at the 2018 Golden Globes Awards, there was speculation that she may decide to run in the 2020 presidential election. At the town tall, she shut down those rumors and made it clear that she is only getting involved in politics this time around in support of Stacey Abrams.

“I’m not here because I’m making some grand stand. Because I’m thinking about running myself. I don’t want to run. I’m not trying to test any waters. I don’t want to go in those waters. I’m here today because of Stacey Abrams,” said Oprah at the town hall.

Abrams and Winfrey had “a conversation on the critical value of women in leadership and what is at stake for our communities in the election,” according to Abrams website.

Abrams expressed her gratitude and thanked Oprah for campaigning for her in a powerful statement.

“Oprah Winfrey has inspired so many of us through the years with her unparalleled ability to form real connections and strengthen the bonds of family and community. I am honored to have Oprah join me for uplifting and honest conversations with voters about the clear choice before us in this election and the boundless potential of Georgians,” stated Abrams.
