Senate Votes To Open Debate On Healthcare Bill

The Senate will open debate on legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare. Senate Republicans barely cleared a procedural hurdle on a vote of 51-50. Vice President Mike Pence was needed to cast the tiebreaker vote. Arizona Republican John McCain came back to the Capitol to cast a yes vote, despite being diagnosed with a brain tumor last week. The House narrowly passed a repeal-and-replace bill in May.

Senate Panel Subpoenas Former Trump Campaign Chief

Two key players in the Russia investigation are under the microscope. Former Trump presidential campaign chief Paul Manafort is getting a subpoena to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the Russia investigation. He is scheduled to appear before the committee tomorrow but that could change. And President Trump’s son-in-law and top adviser Jared Kushner is behind closed doors with the House Intelligence Committee this morning.

DC Police Catch Second Suspect In Infant Shooting

Another suspect in the shooting of a DC infant is under arrest. Police announced this morning that they have taken Saheed Washington Sulu into custody on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. Thirty-nine-year-old Derrick Watson was also arrested last week for the July 10th incident. One-year-old Jeremiah White was accidentally struck by a bullet, but has since recovered. A third, unidentified suspect remains at large.

NFL Receiver Not Suspect In Shoplift Incident

An NFL wide receiver has lost his job due to a case of mistaken identity in Virginia. Prince William County Police say on June 22nd they arrested a man claiming to be Lucky Whitehead for shoplifting at a Woodbridge convenience store. When news spread yesterday that he also skipped his court date, the Dallas Cowboys released Whitehead. This morning, police admitted that Whitehead was in fact not the suspect. The department is working to correctly identify the suspect, and is apologizing to Whitehead and his family.
