Suspected Alexandria Gunman Identified

Suspect Identified

The suspected shooter in the Alexandria, Virginia mass shooting has been identified as James T. Hodgskinson of Belleville, Illinois.  The Washington Post is reporting that he is 66 years old and owns a home inspection business.  The suspect was wounded in a shootout with U.S. Capitol Police at a baseball field while GOP members of congress were practicing for a charity game scheduled for tomorrow.

Police are trying to reassure the public.  Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown briefed told reporters officers were on the scene immediately after the shooting. U.S. Rep. and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, two Capitol Police officers and a congressional aide were hit by gunfire at the ball field. The FBI says they are now taking over the investigation and this is not considered an assassination attempt.
