Trump Pushes Compromise On Immigration

President Trump is pushing for a compromise on immigration. Meeting with Republicans and Democrats at the White House today, Trump said he wants funding for a massive border wall and an end to chain migration and visa lotteries. Democrats want protections for Dreamers under DACA. The Dreamers are young immigrants who were brought into the U.S. illegally as children. Trump announced plans to repeal DACA last year and challenged Congress to craft a legislative reform package. The President said border security is among his top priorities.

Discovery Communications To Close Silver Spring HQ

Silver Spring-based Discovery Communications is leaving Maryland. The company that owns Discovery has notified employees that it will be moving its headquarters to New York City, and that it plans to sell its One Discovery Place headquarters in downtown Silver Spring. The communications company has 13-hundred full-time employees based in Maryland.

Md. Democrats Hold Annual Rally Ahead Of Legislative Session

Maryland Democrats are coming off their annual pep rally and luncheon before the General Assembly session gets underway. Lawmakers return to the State House tomorrow to begin the 90-day legislative session. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen were among the speakers who pumped up the Democratic delegation at the gathering, the fourth consecutive without a Democratic governor as the keynote speaker. Many of the party’s seven candidates for governor were also in attendance.
