Arrest Made In Road Rage Shooting Of Local Boxer

A man has been charged and arrested in the shooting death of a local boxer in a road rage incident.

Prince George’s County police say they’ve arrested the person responsible for shooting a pro-boxer in a road rage incident on Christmas Eve in Temple Hills.

Police say Markell Lewis confessed to killing 30-year-old Danny Kelly, Jr.
The shooting happened on Dec. 24, when Kelly was driving northbound on St. Barnabas Road with his girlfriend and three children. An SUV pulled up alongside Kelly’s truck, and someone inside the vehicle opened fire.  A witness said Lewis and Kelly exchanged words as one allegedly cut off the other on the road.
Lewis was arrested on three days after Kelly’s killing after being found with a gun and drugs in a car he was traveling in. He was charged with possession but later released, not by the police, but the courts. Prince George’s County police chief Malik Aziz, said he did not know why Lewis was released.  Later, police were able to tie Lewis’ gun to the fatal shooting of Kelly, Jr.
