Peabo Bryson, A Tribute to the Music of Aretha Franklin and The Story of Dick Gregory

  • On Friday, the legendary Peabo Bryson performs at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club for two shows 7:30 and 10pm.Then on Saturday, Be’la  Dona takes to the stage. Show time is 8pm.  On Sunday it’s a tribute to the music of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.  Doors open at 5pm, the show starts at 7pm.

 

  • The International Award Winning Africa Umoja Tour comes to town this weekend. It all takes place at George Washington University in the  Lisner Auditorium starting tonight through Sunday.

 

  • ‘Turn Me Loose’ The story of comedian Dick Gregoryis at  Arena Stage, the first black artist to expose a national audience to racial comedy. This John Legend-produced show will showcase Gregory’s incredible bravery in facing bigotry and how he was able to turn his activism into art. Gregory was unafraid of any challenger, even when his safety was in question. Turn Me Loose, which runs through Oct. 14,tackles his career in a raw portrait that promises to leave a mark. 8 p.m. |  Tickets
