2018 SAG Awards Highlights

The 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards, which honors acting achievements in film and television, was held in LA’s Shrine Auditorium Sunday. This year’s awards show was hosted by actress Kristen Bell. The #MeToo movement once again took center stage again last night, as it has at other major awards shows, and all the presenters were women.

One on the biggest headlines from the awards show was that Sterling K. Brown won best male actor in a drama series. He went home with a second award when “This Is Us” took home an award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series. This was the first major network win in the category since ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” nabbed the award in 2006.

Morgan Freeman was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. “These moments in one’s life usually require an entire litany of thank yous,” he said during his acceptance speech. “I can’t do that because I don’t know all of your names, so I won’t try.” He went on to thank SAG-AFTRA for the honor, his family, his colleagues. Freeman ended his speech talking about the male statue and said, “I’m going to tell you what’s wrong with this statue … From the front, it’s gender-specific. Maybe I started something.”

Beyond the stage, there was extraordinary #BlackStarPower. Here are some of our favorite shots from the evening, courtesy of AP Images.
