Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas and mom Natalie Hawkins clapped back at all the anonymous cyberbullies attacking the gymnast. If you’ve been following social media over the past week, bullies have commented on everything from Gabby’s hair to her not being patriotic enough to her not smiling enough and so on.

“She’s had to deal with people criticizing her hair, or people accusing her of bleaching her skin. They said she had breast enhancements, they said she wasn’t smiling enough, she’s unpatriotic. Then it went to not supporting your team mates. Now you’re ‘Crabby Gabby,’” Hawkins said in an interview with Reuters. The internet went crazy when the two-time Olympian failed to place her hand over her heart during “The Star Spangled Banner.”

“When they talk about my hair or me not putting my hand up on my heart or me being very salty in the stands, they’re really criticizing me, and it doesn’t really feel good,” Douglas said, with tears in her eyes. “It was a little bit hurtful.”

When asked what she would have done differently at the Olympics this year, she responded,

Everything I’ve gone through has been a lot this time around,” Douglas said, “and I apologize if [I seemed] really mad in the stands. I wasn’t. I was supporting [teammate] Aly [Raisman]. And I always will support them and respect them in everything they do. I never want anyone to take it as I was jealous or I wanted attention. Never. I support them, and I’m sorry that I wasn’t showing it.”

Gabby went on to say that she loves and supports those who love and support her.

Those bullies should be ashamed of themselves! In a time where people are standing up and fighting for civil rights, we are putting down our very own inciting hate. I promise people can be so absolutely backwards and hypocritical. I truly believe this is happening only because people are able to anonymously sit behind a computer screen and shoot out hate and insults with no remorse.

Well Gabby dear, you are a world champion. You are able to do things the average person is unable to pull off. You are beautiful. You are intelligent. You are talented. You are enough! Hold your head high young lady! You are THE BEST OF THE BEST!
