BET’s new series, “American Soul”, which is a tell all story of the stardom and rise of “Soul Train” has a number of familiar faces as cast members, like singer Kelly Rowland.

Rowland will play the soulful Grammy Award-winning singer Gladys Knight. Fans often tell the Destiny’s Child member she resembles Knight.

According to Billboard, Rowland will be a guest-star in multiple episodes portraying Knight. Her role is crucial to the new series because Knight was one of the first performers picked by Don Cornelius, creator of “Soul Train”, to be on the show.

Rowland will also have the opportunity to record an original version of Knight’s hit single “Midnight Train to Georgia.”

Rowland is, in Knight’s eyes, the perfect fit for this role, as reported by Ebony Magazine.

Knight even mentioned the idea on Instagram in a post back in 2016.

Along with Rowland, singer Kelly Price will also be a cast member of “American Soul.”

Price will be a series regular playing the role of Brianne Clarke. Clarke’s character is described as “wise yet cautious” as she is the head of her family with two children, Simone and Kendall, who are rising stars in Los Angeles.

Both Rowland and Price have been a dynamic force in the music industry and have even taken their talents to the big screen numerous times.

Rowland has been featured on hit series “Girlfriends”, “Empire” and “Being Mary Jane.” Price has held a recurring role on Bounce TV’s “Saints & Sinners.”

“American Soul” will also have Sinqua Walls, seen on “Power” and “The Breaks,” playing the role of Don Cornelius, along with Jason Dirden, from “Greenleaf,” Lantha Richardson, from “This Is Us,” and a host of others.

BET’s new series “American Soul” will premiere in 2019.
