Lauryn Hill Announces ‘Miseducation’ 20th Anniversary Tour

Lauryn Hill is hitting the stage once again this summer to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her milestone 1998 debut album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Back in 1997, Hill along with her fellow Fugees members decided to all embark on solo projects, and that is how ‘Miseducation’ was birthed.

Miseducation was seamless melded hip-hop, R&B, and soul and became a cult-classic with hits like Doo Wop (That Thing) and Ex-Factor. The album got Lauryn five Grammy awards, including Album of the Year.

Throughout her rise to stardom, Lauryn began to crumble to the pressures of fame. Causing her to disappear from the public eye in the early 2000s.

Lauryn began to release music more occasionally between 2002 and 2013, and when she served time in prison for tax evasion, according to USA Today.

Hill said in a statement to The Variety,

“This album chronicled an intimate piece of my young existence. It was the summation of most, if not all, of my most hopeful and positive emotions experienced to that date.

I Loved and believed deeply in my community’s ability to both Love and heal itself provided it received the right amount of support and encouragement.

Our world today, both complex and changing, is in need of the balance between moral fortitude and cathartic expression. I hope the Love and energy that permeated this work can continue to inspire change with Love and optimism at the helm.”

Along with her scheduled tour dates, Hill plans to perform at New York’s Apollo Theater on May 1, elusive to Citi card members. The tickets are on sale for $20 to commemorate the alum’s anniversary.

All tickets proceeds are donated to the MLH Foundation.
