Another US city is acting out in frustration. Over the weekend Milwaukee erupted into violence after the shooting death of an armed black man during a foot chase. Family and friends of Sylville Smith, 23, held a candlelight vigil in the residential neighborhood where the shooting took place.

According to reports and police body camera footage, Smith was holding a handgun during the encounter. Police say that the officer, who they wish to remain nameless, shot Smith after he failed to comply with orders to put his gun down. His gun was loaded with 23 rounds.

Buildings were set ablaze, businesses looted, and police vehicles were destroyed during the riots. A nearby BP gas station was set on fire as well. Smith’s sisters beg for the violence to end and condemned violence being carried out in her brother’s name. Protesters and community leaders gathered to call for peace within Milwaukee. The National Guard has been called in to aide law enforcement.
