Oprah to Jamie Foxx: “You’re Blowing It!”

Jamie Foxx thanks Oprah for saving his career, and his life. The 49-year-old actor said in an interview that back in 2004 the mogul staged an intervention when his drinking and hard partying threatened to ruin his career.

Foxx said he received an unexpected phone call from Lady O she coordinated an intervention with several legendary figures at the home of Quincy Jones.

“We go in the house and there are all these old actors,” he recalled. “Black actors from the ’60s and the ’70s. Who look like they just want to say, ‘Good luck.’ They want to say, ‘Don’t blow it.’ “

He said Sidney Poitier had the greatest impact on him.

“I want to give you responsibility. When I saw your performance [in Ray], it made me grow two inches,” the legendary actor told Foxx.

Foxx claims that moment was one of the most memorable days of his life.

Jamie Foxx went on to win the Oscar for his performance in Ray — at the time becoming just the third black man to take home the coveted award.
