Rory Felton, one of the founding members of Rare Essence, was fatally stabbed and found in his apartment Friday. Felton’s death comes just days from his 58th birthday.

NBC Washington reports, police say Felton was stabbed multiple times in an apartment on Forrester Street in Southwest D.C. just before two a.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Felton survived a violent attack back in 1992 where he sustained a gunshot to the head.

“He loved living and loved his music,” Felton’s wife Penny told NBC Washington. “Music was his number one love.”

“I didn’t believe it. I didn’t want to believe it,” said fellow Rare Essence founder Andre Johnson.

Police say currently there are no suspects in Felton’s murder.
