What You Should Know About DC’s ‘Unite The Right’ Rally This Weekend

Exactly one year to the date of the deadly Charlottesville rally, white supremacists are scheduled to rally in DC August 11 to 12. The group’s purpose is to “protest civil rights abuses in Charlottesville.” Only several hundred supremacists are scheduled to attend but thousands will show up to counterprotest the rally. Last year, white a 20-year-old black man as well as Heather Heyer were killed at the Charlottesvillle rally.

According to the rally’s website, the demonstration is planned to start at 5:30 p.m. in Lafayette Square on the 12th.The group will assemble at the Vienna Metro Station in Vienna, Virginia at 2pm and make their way down to Lafayette Square.

“We are stronger than they are,” Makia Green of Black Lives Matter D.C. told Fox 5. “So it’s important that we let D.C. and the rest of the world know that we are not going to stand for the hate.”
