Chicago Mayor Being Sued Over Pledge To Only Interview With Journalists of Color

Last week WHUR reported that Mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot made an announcement on Wednesday, criticizing the “overwhelming whiteness and maleness of Chicago media outlets” and urging local press to “hire reporters of color – and especially women of color – to cover Chicago politics.” In the announcement she also stated that she would no longer be taking interviews from non people of color.

It looks like that didn’t sit well with one reporter in particular who has made the decision to sue! Thomas Catenacci, a reporter with super conservative news outlet The Daily Caller, is suing the Mayor over her new interview policy.

Catenacci claims Lightfoot’s policy is blatantly discriminatory and a violation of his rights — specifically, Equal Protection under the law. He also thinks it’s a violation of the First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of the press.
