‘Today’ Ratings Improve In Megyn Kelly’s Absence

Megyn Kelly Today’ was cancelled two weeks ago following her comments about blackface Halloween costumes. It seems that fans and viewers alike don’t miss Kelly one bit because since then, ratings for the 9 A.M. time slot have grown noticeably.

In the weeks following Kelly’s absence, the number of viewers between the ages 18 to 49 increased drastically by 10% according to Neilsen. This is good news for NBC because that is the age demographic many advertisers focus on.

The increase in viewership for the 9 A.M. show has resulted in viewership increase for the 10 o’clock show as well, which features Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee.

The numbers do not come as a shock due to the fact that ratings dramatically decreased upon Megyn Kelly’s arrival to ‘The Today Show’. During her time at NBC Kelly averaged 2.4 million viewers which was lower than her average at FOX as well as her predecessors in the same time slot. The lack of an audience came as huge blow to NBC who poached Kelly from FOX in a 3 year, $69 million dollar contract. Kelly had roughly two years left in her contract when she was pulled off air and it is unclear how much her payout from the network will be.

The question now is whether or not NBC will continue to maintain their audience.
