California Senator Kamala Harris is running for President…

Today California Senator Kamala Harris put all the rumors and rumblings to rest. Via Twitter Harris released a video announcing her bid to become President in 2020.

Her video said decency and justice are all on the line now. She enters a crowded Democrat pool for the nomination to become the next President of the United States. Harris who is 54-years-old is a first-term Senator and former California Attorney General.

At 9:45 the annual Wreath Laying ceremony will take place the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial in DC. At 10 this morning Ward 7 Councilmember Vincent Gray is going to hold his Peace Walk at the entrance of Anacostia Park. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is planning her Peace Walk at 11 am in front of Anacostia Park. At Noon is the big MLK Parade. It will begin at Martin Luther King Avenue and Good Hope Road in Southeast. There will be a Health and Community Fair at the R.I.S.E. Gateway Pavilion in the District.

Chicago Police Officer sentenced to prison for the murder of Laquan McDonald…

Justice for Laquan McDonald. A judge has sentenced former Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke to 6 years in prison for the teens’ death.

In 2014, 17-year-old Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times, several while he laid on the ground. Earlier this month three Chicago Police Officers accused of lying about the details of the shooting were acquitted of any wrongdoing.

The prosecution had asked for a sentence between 18 and 20 years. Van Dyke will also have to remain under a two year mandatory supervised released after his time is served.
