Candidate Who Said City In Michigan Should Remain White Quits Race

The council candidate in a city just outside of Detroit has dropped out of the race following the uproar of comments that many found racist.  Folks in Marysville, Michigan are hoping the comments about keeping the city white by now-former city council candidate Jean Cramer lead to healthy discussions on race relations. That was the overarching response from people last night at Marysville’s city council meeting, just hours after Cramer announced she was ending her campaign.  Her remarks became national news last week and over the weekend when she declined to walk them back and called marriages between black and white people “immoral.” Cramer had also said she wanted to keep “foreign born” people out of Marysville.
