Mayor Bowser To Sign New Protections For Sexual Assault Victims

At Noon today, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is expected to sign off on a bill to improve the protections for victims of sexual assault and survivors.

The Sexual Assault Victim’s Rights Amendment Act of 2019 was created after hearing from sexual assault victims, survivors, advocates, and community-based organizations. The goal is to improve the outcomes for both victims and survivors of sexual assault.

Today’s signing will take place inside the John A.Wilson Building in the lobby of the first floor. Expected in attendance include Michelle Garcia, Director, Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants, Jennifer Porter, Mayor’s Office on Women’s Policy and Initiatives and Marisa Ferri Light, Co-lead Organizer, DC Justice for Survivors Coalition.
