(Washington, DC) — Lawmakers are looking at voter ID laws across the U.S. North Carolina Democrat G.K. Butterfield opened a virtual House hearing and said some voter ID laws are restrictive and “disproportionately burden minority voters.” He argued such laws diminish election turnout among minorities. Butterfield said states should be making it easier for all to vote. Wisconsin Republican Bryan Steil [[ steel ]] called Butterfield’s arguments a “false narrative.” He said voter ID helps ensure free, fair and secure elections. Steil stressed that voter ID makes it “easier to vote and hard to cheat.” He said voters must have confidence in election results.
