(Upper Marlboro, MD) — Operation Heatwave, an initiative to crackdown on violent crime is underway in Prince George’s County. The project was unveiled by Police Chief Malik Aziz as part of his plan for community policing during the summer months. Aziz said there were more than 13-thousand crimes in all of 2020 and he is hoping to reduce that number this year. The acting chief said part of his program will be to look at crime data and figure out where resources need to be placed. Aziz said that means extra manpower to crack down on traffic violators, street racing, violent crime, and property theft.
