Washington, D.C. (Wednesday, June 23, 2021) – A pedestrian bridge came tumbling down on a major thoroughfare in Washington, D.C., injuring a half dozen people. The bridge carries walkers across I-295 just prior to Polk Street, NE. According to DC Fire and EMS, 6 people were injured. Four of them were transported to nearby hospitals.
Hazmat crews are on the scene along with other emergency personnel. At least one truck and another vehicle are said to be under the bridge and hit by debris. No word on the cause of the collapse or the extent of injuries for the persons hurt.
