(New York, NY) — The NFL is announcing teams with COVID outbreaks among unvaccinated players will be forced to forfeit games if they can’t be rescheduled this season. The team responsible for a canceled game will also be responsible for financial losses. That team may be subject to potential discipline from the commissioner. The league says it does not plan to add a “19th week” to fit in games that need be made up. This is the first year the NFL will play 17 games instead of 16, making the regular season 18 weeks long.
